Day 1: Thu 21-Jun-2018

China Highlights' Beijing tours cover the highlights of China's capital city, be it the ancient imperial remnants or modern development.  Beijing is a must-see destination for visitors to China. Having served as China’s capital for more than 800 years, Beijing's glorious ancient past and modern vibrancy mingle perfectly - Beijing boasts the most number of cultural heritage sites in the world.


Day 2: Fri 22-Jun-2018

Today's Activities: Hutong Tour in Dongcheng District, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch at popular local restaurants allowance of CNY 60 per person. 

Hutong Tour in Dongcheng District: Hutong is a maze of historic alleyways with old single story traditional courtyard houses, which are now fast disappearing. In this one hour tour, you can hop on a rickshaw to ride through the narrow alleys as well as visit a local family and find out about the different thresholds of the courtyards.

In-Depth Forbidden City Heritage Discovery (4 hours):  The Forbidden City is the largest imperial palace in the world, home to 24 emperors during the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties. It was built in 1420, about 70 years before Columbus discovered America and 144 years before the birth of William Shakespeare. Your guide will show you about 18 spots in the Forbidden City to help you discover its deep secrets.  We will take you to see places that you would never find by yourself. The walk in the Forbidden City is graded moderate, requiring a good level of fitness as there are many steps. You will be walking for about 4 hours (4-5 kilometers).

Tiananmen Square (30 minutes) : Tian'anmen Square is the largest city square in the centre of Beijing, named after the Tiananmen (literally, Gate of Heavenly Peace) which sits to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. As the world's largest city square and enduring symbol of China's national pride, it is surrounded by many imposing buildings including the Heavenly Gate (entry to the Forbidden City), Museums, government buildings and Chairman Mao's Mausoleum.



Day 3: Sat 23-Jun-2018

Place & Transport: Beijing

Today's Activities: Temple of Heaven, The Simatai Great Wall Tour, Gubei Water Town

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch allowance of CNY 40 per person.

Temple of Heaven (1.5 hours) : Built in 1420 during the Ming dynasty, the Temple of Heaven is a complex of Taoist buildings where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties visited for annual ceremonies to pray for good harvests. The park of the temple of Heaven is full of life. In the morning lots of local elderly people meet there to sing, exercise, and do Tai Chi. You will be walking for about 1-1½ hour (1½ kilometers) there. The walk is graded easy.

The Simatai Great Wall Day Tour (2 hours):  The Simatai section of the Great Wall is located in the north of Miyun County, 120 km northeast of Beijing. This section of Great Wall is one of the few to retain the original features of the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) Great Wall. The walks on the Great Wall at Simatai are graded moderate and require a good level of fitness, as some sections involve steep ups and downs. You will be walking for about 3 hours (5 kilometers) for a round-trip. Cable car is available for customers who would like to see the great views but do not wish to climb all the way up.  Simatai is the only section of the Wall which is lit up and open to tourists at night. The night views are fantastic, especially when you look down from the Wall to the lake at the bottom. 

Gubei Water Town (1 hour) : Situated north of Miyun County in Beijing, Gubei Water Town surrounds a beautiful Lake Reservoir and leans against the Simatai Great Wall, the most dangerous and majestic section of the entire Great Wall. It boasts a combination of mountains, water and ancient villages.Most buildings have been reconstructed in the traditional courtyard style. Based on five ancient villages and a water resource, this water town has developed into a sightseeing and holiday destination. An overnight stay in the water town will offer you an opportunity to enjoy the stunning night views of the Simatai section of the Wall.

Day 4: Sun 24-Jun-2018

Today's Activities: Summer Palace with Boat Ride and the Garden of Virtue and Harmony, Hotel to Train station Transfer (Beijing), Train station to Hotel Transfer (Xian)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch at Beijing Roast Duck allowance incl CNY 100 per person. 

Summer Palace with Boat Ride and the Garden of Virtue and Harmony (2 hours) : Situated in the northwest of Beijing, the Summer Palace is 9 miles (15 kilometers) from the downtown area. It is the largest and best-preserved royal park in China. The Palace greatly influences Chinese horticulture and landscape, with its famous natural views and cultural interest, and has long been recognized as 'The Museum of Royal Gardens'. You will be walking for about 2 hours (2 kilometers) in the park.

Tips: Please note that some areas like Longevity Hill and the opera recital area require a further payment to enter.


Making the Terracotta Army


DAY 5: MON 25-JUN-2018

Place & Transport: Xian

Accommodation: Grand Noble Hotel (Superior Room)
Today's Activities: Terracotta Warriors, Make a Clay Warrior at a Cave Dwelling, Xian Bicycle Tour
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch at A Wa Shan Zhai Restaurant allowance of CNY 40 per person. 

The Terracotta Warriors and Horses (2 hours): Discovered accidentally in 1974, this incredible army of over 7000 soldiers, archers, horses and chariots in full battle array has guarded Emperor Qin's tomb since 210 BC. Each figure is unique, and the painstaking repair and excavation continues in 3 pits which are protected inside huge hangars. 1.5 hours from Xian, there is also an excellent museum and film about the history of the vaults. Photos (no flash) are allowed. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Learn How to Make Terracotta Warrior at a Cave Dwelling: Visit the cave dwelling family workshop in the countryside, learn how to make Terracotta Warriors from a local farmer. Do you know how life-sized warriors been made in the ancient time? Do you know what is the most difficult step? Find the answers by visiting the place. Not only know detailed steps of making procedure, but also have a nice interact with the local.

Xian City Wall with Bicycle (1.5 hours) : The walls, ramparts, gates and watchtowers form one of the oldest and most complete city defenses still around. Built in the 13th century on the foundations of the original Tang Forbidden City surrounding the city center, it is a major landmark, and the best preserved as well as the oldest and largest of the city defense systems in China. If the weather is not good for biking on the city wall, we will substitute a visit to the Bell Tower. Your guide will be very glad to take you the Bell Tower after you have been to look at the city wall.   




DAY 6: TUE 26-JUN-2018

Place & Transport:  Xian

Today's Activities: Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Shaanxi Museum, Muslim Quarter, Famen Temple
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch at Qianzhou Restaurant allowance of CNY 40 per person. 

Shaanxi History Museum (1.5 hours) : The history of Shaanxi is said to be the history of China, and this museum is quite simply one of the nation's best. Four major galleries in large, Tang-style buildings house a vast and impressive collection, beautifully displayed. Most of the item labels are in English, although some other information on the exhibitions is not, but your guide can help here. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Big Wild Goose Pagoda (1 hour) : A major Buddhist site, the simple, elegant brick Pagoda stands in the grounds of the attractive Da Ci'en Temple. The Pagoda was built in the 7th century to house the Buddhist materials that Xuanzang (Tripitaka) brought back from his epic journey to India. The Temple complex has several large halls with some great Buddhist statues and murals.  Tips: In the scenic spot, there is a place where you can find your Chinese zodiac information. It is also a shop to sale Chinese calligraphy and painting. 

Muslim Quarter (1 hour): The Muslim quarters lies 100 meters west of the Bell tower in downtown Xi'an. The 500 meters long avenue paved by bluestones are dotted with many unique stall, souvenir shop, café and bars which are mostly run by Muslim people. Tourists, especially from overseas come and shop here.

Famen Temple (1.5 hours): It locates to the west of Xian city and sits in the 120km Fufeng County. The temple has a history of 1700. This Buddhist temple, which records mention as far back as 67AD, contains a 13-storied brick pagoda as part of the monastery. This pagoda fell down in the rain in August, 1981 and revealed a 1000 year old underground vault full with 2,400 treasures of the Tang and previous dynasties given as offerings. These included gold and silver utensils, glazed wares, porcelains, pearls, precious stones and textiles, as well as religious items. The biggest treasure is a finger bone of Buddha offered to the Emperor of China during the Tang dynasty. Heshi Buddhist Pagoda was built in Famen Temple in May 2009. It is in the shape of two palms with ten fingers clinging together. It is the tallest Buddhist pagoda in the world.



DAY 7: WED 27-JUN-2018

Today's Activities: Huashan Mountain, Cable Car on Mt. Huashan (round trip)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch allowance of CNY 40 per person. 

Huashan Mountain (4 hours) : Huashan, near Huayin city in Shaanxi Province, is famous for its precipice. It is one of the renowned Five Mountains of China, and in ancient times used to be called the West Mountain. The mountain has five summits: the south peak, 2160.5m above sea level, the east Morning Sun peak, the west Lotus Flower peak, the north peak and the middle peak. Usually we arrange a cable car up from the north peak, trek about 2 hours on the Canglongling range – the highlight of the trip – then take the cable car down again to the north peak. In this way, you will experience the essence of Huashan. Please note that you have about 2 hours free time to trek,your guide will wait for you at the cable car, joining you again when you return to take the cable car down.

Cable Car on Mt. Huashan(round way) (30 minutes) : You can enjoy the scenery along the way to Mt. Huashan by cable car.
